On 13 November 2024, xShare, alongside the XpanDH, Xt-EHR and the European Commission, co-hosted the 2nd EEHRxF Experts Summit in Brussels, a key event focused on advancing the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) within the European Health Data Space (EHDS). Building on the momentum of the first summit organised in December 2023, the event brought together stakeholders from across Europe to discuss regulatory frameworks, technical progress, and strategies for enhanced cross-border data sharing. Highlights included plenary sessions on the EHDS policy context, technical advancements in EEHRxF standards, and the industry’s role in ensuring adoption readiness.
During the Summit, xShare Scientific Coordinator Catherine Chronaki (HL7) presented a year in the life of xShare showcasing the project’s progress and vision. She emphasised xShare’s mission to make sharing health data in the EEHRxF format as seamless as a click of a button, supported by the Yellow Button and API, the Standards and Policy Hub, and the xShare Label. xShare’s achievements, such as the development of a minimum data set toward IPS-R, the creation of the “EHRxF in a nutshell” document, and the organisation of four X-Bundle retreats, were lauded as milestones for accelerating EHDS adoption.
Moreover in the final session on next steps for collaboration and communication, Robert Stegwe (CEN) presented the xShare’s Standards and Policy Hub and Karolina Mackiewicz (ECHAlliance) the Community of Excellence, both the key tools to address cross-border challenges, support multilingual capabilities, and drive co-creation within the digital health ecosystem.
The summit provided an excellent platform to align with stakeholders and reinforce xShare’s commitment to interoperability, innovation, and European leadership in health data exchange.
